The Weight

I’m famous for saying, “I’ve struggled with my weight my whole life”.

That, unfortunately, isn’t exactly true… Gaining weight actually comes very easy for me… There’s no struggle, I’m good at it!!

This past week for instance… (Many of you know that over the last year, I’ve lost significant weight, and still need to lose a few more pounds…)

But last week, on weigh-in day, I was up almost 4 lbs 😣!!

Was I surprised? Absolutely not!! It was a bad week of eating…

  • Ice cream and brownies (3 times😣)
  • Fried fish and French fries Friday night
  • A whole bunch of BBQ
  • (the list probably goes on… I don’t want to think about it…)

Great lesson learned in what not to do, right?

What if I told you this is also a great Spiritual lesson for us, straight from The Bible…

Hebrews 12:1

‘Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, ‘

This is such a simple concept, both physically and spiritually;

  • Want to lose weight? Eat right and exercise…
  • Want to be spiritually healthy? Avoid sin and exercise your faith!

It all starts with “Laying aside every weight…”

I don’t know about you, but I’m a bit of a “stress eater”…

  • I found that if I can manage the stress, I can eat healthier…

Worry and stress in your life can also cause you to react in ways that affect your relationship with God (that’s sin)…

Jesus says you can “lay them down”…

Cast your cares (worries, fears, stress, anxiety) on Jesus, because He really does care about you…

And remember, He gave His life for you to wash away your sin.

Yesterday, I decided to get back on track on the diet and stepped up my exercise…

  • I’m already down 2 lbs!!

When Jesus looks at you, He doesn’t see a loser, a quitter, or a failure

  • He sees a winner!

Why not make the decision today

  • turn all of your struggles over to Jesus, and get back in the race
