Magnetic Attraction

My Dad was a captain on a tug boat (a big oil transporting tug…), and working at sea, he brought us home some interesting souvenirs.  Once he brought me a frozen flying fish, which I just had to take for show-and-tell at school!! But the best thing he ever brought home was a large pair of magnets that came out of a ship’s radar!!

I remember playing with those magnets for hours… they were very strong, and when you turned them where they were attracted, they pulled together so tightly that you could barely get them apart again, and if you turned them around where they opposed each other, as hard as you tried, you just couldn’t get them together!!

A passage from The Bible that I use very often comes to mind with this;
James 4:7-8
Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you.  8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.
It’s easy to become attracted to sin (things against God’s will…), but just like those magnets, if you let them get together, it’s hard to separate from it…But God gives us the ability to flip the magnet and oppose the devil and sin, and in return draw near to Him…
I want this to be very simple, and show you just how easy this is…
I recently was put in a situation with a very negative person. And in our conversations, I felt myself being drawn into the conversation, becoming negative right there with him! Before you knew it, it was becoming a big nasty conversation!
Then I realized what was happening, and just like flipping a magnet over, I flipped the conversation to positive things, and started talking about Jesus (my favorite conversation subject!!)…
Now it didn’t change his negative disposition, but it did break the attraction and did just what a magnet does and pushed us away from the conversation…
I’m being very real here…It’s just that easy to get caught up in situations that can pull us away from God’s will in our lives…
So, when facing that negative attraction, flip it over to the positive side and God will help you get out of the situation!!
Love and blessings,
Pastor Daniel
